A Little About Me…
Born in 1970, I grew up in a beautiful part of the Leicestershire country side near Melton Mowbray… (although when we were kids we thought it was boring), anyway, I hated going to school, infact myself and a few mates spent more time walking home than actually going to the place, which didn’t make sense because the school was a bus ride away of no less than 7 miles (and they say the were the best years of our lives)
Well, after my wonderful school days I set about looking for my future career… what a game that was going to turn out to be. I tried several different career paths from being a trainee chef to general factory work, all which I can say never kept me amused for very long, come to think of it, back then you could almost walk out of one job in the morning and be working again by lunch time, but living in the countryside transport was… shall we say few and far between.
At the tender age of 17, I found something that kept me interested for more than a few weeks. I started an apprenticeship as a Vehicle Re-finisher (technical word for a paint sprayer) continuing with this for a good few years I decided that it just wasn’t giving me what I wanted in life. Although I couldn’t be fussed with school, I still had a head on my shoulders and wanted to start to use it (perhaps they were the best years after all)
As the computer age was kicking off, in my ultimate wisdom the decison was made, “I want to do something with computers” but what? I tried many different courses from programming to web design, gaining industry certification in the process. My life was made… or so I thought, I tried getting a job in the IT industry sending no less than 1000 CV’s out, eagerly waiting for a response for my new career the big bomb shell came, when, I got just one reply saying “Because the lack of commercial experience we are unable to offer a position at this time” Bah! how was I supposed to get experience if no-one would give me the chance?
My back burner passion was human psychology, I studied a little through the years but never really gave it much more thought until a now close colleague introduced me to Hypno-therapy or more to the point Hypno-analysis, which is specialist technique in the profession. Studying closer, I enrolled with the HCB (Hypnotherapy Control Board) which is the leading UK Hypno-therapy training school. After completing the course and passing the examinations ( 12 in all ) I became a member (By Invitation only) of the IAH (International Association of Hypno-analysts). I opened a private practice dealing with first stage nervous dis-orders and other emotional issues.
Further study of human psychology, took me to other disciplines of therapy which I am happy to say gave me a great career after many years of wondering what to do.
One day a friend and colleague said “Darren, why don’t you promote your business online”, I hadn’t really given it much thought until then. Then that light bulb moment came on, all that stuff I learned about web design wasn’t a waste after all. I sat down and created a business site for myself and started browsing online for idea’s on how to promote it, this is where I began researching marketing online. Before long I began to realise there was a hidden career out there right under my nose. The Internet Marketing World… it wasn’t long before I had got involved with this industry and realised that this could replace my income and get me out of the long hours I had to work with my therapy.
All Was Not as it Seemed….
Although I did some research into the home based business industry, I openly admit I kind of jumped in head first. I was looking at a particular site, after looking for a good two weeks or so and decided to call the fellow up who’s site it was. All the so called income proof and sales speel made it sound so very easy and although with a very red face I admit I was drawn into the hype. We all like to dream, and although I was doing rather well as a therapist, the hours were burning me out.
The thought of earning 30K a month for a couple of hours work a day really appealed to me, so, stupidly I joined up with this so called mentor. Big mistake, which I payed dearly for… just shy of £2000 to be exact! Once the money was tranfered I was unable to get hold of my sponsour, the times I did get hold of him, the only advice I got was “just do a few video’s or use twitter”.
Yea great advice, but what the hell do you do them on, or what do you actually do with twitter?
I was also told to use the company replicated site as well… boy did I make some mistakes back then. After bashing away for a few months and not getting a single opt in, I was about to throw the towel in, just through sheer determination (and the 2K) I battled on and done something I should of done in the beginning.
The Turning Point….
I sat down and started researching what everyone else was doing, not just in my business but across the board. I began to connect with some very influential people in this industry and yes spent another ton of money educating myself. I began to realise the bigger picture and thought “this is going to take some doing… but I will succeed!” I came across 4 people who, are now very good friends of mine, these people changed my life around in this industry. I totally ripped my business apart and re-built it the way I was taught to by what I would call true mentors.
Yes, it took some very hard work, staying awake for long hours at a time building my business online but that dedication and effort really paid off. I am so greatful to those 4 people who, without there help I would not be here talking to you now. My sales began to slowly come in, not just from my primary opportunity, but from other sources too, and now I have a fantastic team under me, who, are enjoying the freedom that this business really can give you IF YOU GET THE RIGHT TRAINING & SUPPORT!!
This story is the very reason I am here today helping others to do the same and making sure they don’t make the same mistakes I did back then.
